I’m sitting in my car viewing all the different posts reminding us of that tragic day on September 11, 2001. The emotions that return to me I can’t really describe. The emotions go in so many directions. Sadness, anger, patriotism, confusion, concern, fear and faith all come to mind.
I remember after things began to settle down and we had time to let the enormity of it all sink in, the pride of watching this nation come together was a beautiful thing. I was never so proud to be an American as I was at that moment. To watch everyone come together whether it be race, religion or nationality, we all came together.
We fast forward to today on the 15th anniversary of this tragedy and it is sad to see the division in this country. We have dealt with leadership in this country, both sides of the aisle, that have totally divided this nation. Why is this? My belief is we lack leadership.
So many of the people that we use to look to for leadership have vanished. Whether it is a leader of a local scout troop, school teacher, clergy or government leader. Laws, rules, fear, greed and tragedy have changed our society.
So my biggest question, where are all the religious leaders. Where are the ones that will stand up for all Christians. The only visible ones I see buy television time to share their word so they can plug their latest book, CD, DVD, website or speaking tour. The moment our leaders disappeared and allowed God to be removed from public sight is the day our society began it’s downfall.
Jesus told us the two greatest commandment’s:
37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’[a] 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’[b] 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”
As God is more and more removed from our lives, it is hard to keep Him in our mind, soul and heart. The second one is just as hard. We as a society have become numb to the needs of others for many reasons. Social media and society’s “let someone else take care of it, it’s not my problem” attitude and pure greed has numbed us to loving our neighbors.
The sadness and patriotism fills my heart today, but sorrow and uneasiness consumes me for our One Nation Under God. Spiritual leaders look inside of yourself and work to once again unite our country under the Love of Our God.
